Plan a movie night around your Plex library
If you run a Plex server, you already own the answer to what to watch tonight. What is missing is a way for everyone else to see what is on it and say what they would like to watch.
Connect it once, in your settings
Pairing runs through Plex itself: MiruList shows a code, you confirm it on plex.tv, and no password ever passes through here. You then choose which libraries count, and whether to bring your watch history and your Plex ratings across. A sync runs on its own and you can trigger one whenever you like.
What you own counts as available
Connect your Plex server and the films in your library are marked as available on your lists, beside the streaming services your group subscribes to. When the group picks a film, it is one you can actually play.
Private until you decide otherwise
A connected server is yours alone until you share it with a watchlist. You choose which groups get to see that a film is on your shelf.
Bring your watch history across
Importing your history marks those films as seen, so they stop competing for attention on a list of things to watch. It is the seen status only, and a film you delete here stays deleted: the next sync will not put it back. Plex ratings can come over as well, for the account you connected and only where you have not rated the film here. A rating of your own is never replaced.
Everyone on the server, not just you
A server usually has more than one profile on it. Link a profile to the account it belongs to and its plays count for that person, so history lands on the right member instead of all arriving as yours. Plays with nobody signed in get an entry of their own, which you link only if one person always watches that way.
Each sync leaves a report per profile: how many films matched, how many were newly marked as seen, and any title that could not be matched. Match one of those by hand once and later syncs reuse it.
Open it where you watch it
A film your server holds gets a Plex row of its own among the places it can be watched, and that row is a link: it opens the film in Plex Web, on the server it came from. That answer sits on the film's page and on the night's own page, so once the evening has its film you can start it from the plan.
Common questions
Do I need to give out my Plex password?
No. You link your account through Plex itself, by confirming a code on plex.tv.
Can my friends see my whole library?
They see that a film on the shared list is available to you. Sharing happens per watchlist, and only when you turn it on.
Does importing history overwrite my ratings?
No. Imported Plex ratings only fill in films you have not rated here.
Do the other people need Plex?
No. Plex is one of the places a film can be available. Everyone else votes and plans exactly as they would without it.
